Computer Access Speeds Up Process for Tenants and Applicants

New computers and printers installed at Calgary Housing Company district offices are increasing speed and efficiency for tenants and applicants.

The five computers and printers installed at three district offices in January allow tenants and applicants to search the internet for required information, which can include everything from government forms to financial records.

“Ensuring our customers have access to the computers at our district offices offers a significant improvement in the service we deliver,” says Customer Service Coordinator Dean McGinnis. “We work with individuals who may not have access to the technology that others take for granted. They may not have completely understood what was required when initially filling out the paperwork. Linking our customers to the internet can quickly address an issue and ultimately speed up the process.”

Tenants and applicants can also use the computers to access information about CHC and the services that are offered. The computers can also be used to email Housing Services staff if required.

“This is a great example of how partnering with a City business unit is improving the experience of citizens. City IT was able to provide and install the technology,” says Lead of Programs and Services James Ray.

“We expect better access to information will lead to shorter processing times and less return visits by tenants and applicants. It will reduce stress and lead to more positive outcomes for a vulnerable population,” he says.

A study of incomplete applications last year found 80 per cent could have been completed properly if the applicant had access to a computer.
