Increase to Provincial Benefits

As of January 1, 2024, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Income Support, and the Alberta Child and Family benefits will increase by 4.25%. These benefits are indexed annually to inflation.

Recipients of Income Support will see their Core Shelter-Social Housing rate increase at the time of Annual Rent Review and not before. Rent increases will only be in proportion to the increase in the Shelter rate; the other portions of the Income Support benefit will not be impacted.

Recipients of AISH will see their rent levels remain the same if they live in social housing. Rent-geared-to-income (RGI) will continue to be set at 30% of a household’s income.
