CHC Continued Pandemic Response

Continuing to Work Together During the Pandemic

Thank you for everything you have been doing to keep our community healthy! The work we have been doing together has helped to lead to the Province’s relaxation of restrictions, but our work is not done.

Although CHC has relaxed restrictions such as the essential visitor’s policy, and services are beginning to open up in our resource rooms, COVID-19 is still a significant health concern. All Albertan’s continue to be expected to follow the guidelines outlined by the Province of Alberta.

To help maintain our forward momentum, we ask that you continue to do your part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. With the visitor policy being cancelled and services beginning to resume, we expect to see more traffic around our properties. You can help by supporting us not only with physical distancing, good hygiene and monitoring for symptoms, but also by helping to keep our shared spaces clean.

Avoid high touch surfaces and help keep our shared spaces clean

While Calgary Housing Company has regular scheduled Janitorial Services to help prevent the spread, you can also help by maintaining good hygiene practices.

Surfaces frequently touched with hands are most likely to be contaminated and it is not yet known how long the virus causing COVID-19 lives on surfaces. According to Alberta Health Services, early evidence suggests it can live on objects and surfaces from a few hours to days.

Be sure to wash your hands before leaving and when entering your unit, and consider disinfecting common surfaces before you touch them including:

  • Door knobs, elevator buttons and switches
  • Knobs, hands and switches on washers and dryers
  • Tables, counters and other common surfaces When cleaning surfaces, choose products that clean and disinfect all at once (e.g. premixed store-bought disinfectant cleaning solutions and/or wipes when available).

Cleaning products remove germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces by using soap (or detergent) and water. Cleaning does not necessarily kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.

Disinfecting products kill germs on surfaces using chemicals.

Alberta Relaunch

As public health measures are relaxed, the Alberta Health Authorities will evaluate, monitor and adjust course as needed. Decisions will be applied at both provincial and local levels. As Alberta reopens, some regions may need to put additional measures in place to address local outbreaks. Learn more about the regional relaunch status in your area and sign up to be notified if there is a change in your area. Visit COVID-19 relaunch status map and notifications for more info.

CHC is monitoring all of our properties to prevent potential outbreaks. Alberta Health Services hygiene requirements and physical distancing requirements will remain in place, and tenants should inform their Property Manager of a positive COVID-19 test result or exposure.

Doing your part to prevent infection

Tenants should continue to minimize exposure and transmission through prevention and control measures including physical distancing and practicing good hygiene.

Practice Physical Distancing

Please continue to keep two meters distance between yourself and other people.  If you are unable to social distance, please use a face covering or non-medical mask.  Non-medical masks are being provided free of charge, by the Provincial Government, at A&W, McDonalds Canada and Tim Hortons drive-thru locations.  Please refer to the Alberta Government website for more information.

See something, say something

Call 311 if you have any concerns about public health violations.

Practice Good Hygiene

Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face.  For more information, please refer to Alberta Health Services website on recommended hygiene practices.

Monitor for Symptoms & Obtaining Testing

If you have symptoms, self-isolate and contact Alberta Heath Services by dialing 8-1-1 for information and instructions.

If you have any of the following symptoms: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, or sore throat, you MUST self-isolate for 10 days or until the symptoms are no longer present (whichever is longer).

If you test positive for COVID-19, inform your Property Manager so Calgary Housing Company can help to support you.
