Tenant Update – Monday, March 23

There are several important updates today including info on how we have re-organized our Covid-19 Information pages for tenants.

Website re-organization

We have been working to answer questions about CHC operations, provide updates on changes, locate resources from The City, health authorities and businesses, and generally provide as much information as we can to help our tenants during this situation.

Today, we have reorganized the Covid-19-related information on our site into five pages:

  1. CHC Housing Support and Information
  2. Health Information
  3. Financial Supports
  4. Community Supports
  5. Distancing Resources

We will be updating these pages as new information becomes available. New info on these pages will be highlighted and all new content will have a “date added” tag so you can see when information was uploaded or updated.

We will also be making regular posts like this one to highlight important new information, updates, new resources, etc.

Rental Payments

We know that the current situation is creating significant challenges for many people in our community including those who make their homes with CHC. We are taking steps to ensure we are able to maintain service and to provide assistance to tenants who may be facing additional struggles. Please remember that you are still responsible for paying your rent, however, if you are having difficulty, please contact your Property Manager to make arrangements.

Playground Closures

CHC will be closing the playgrounds on all CHC-managed properties. This action follows The City of Calgary decision to close all City-operated playgrounds to protect public health.

Low End of Market Rent Freeze

In light of the current challenging situation, CHC will be halting planned and approved rent increases to Low End of Market leases. As of Monday, March 23, CHC will be immediately freezing rents on Low End of Market leases. Previously planned and approved rental increases are being put on hold until further notice.

Common Spaces, Hygiene and Building Maintenance

The health and safety of our tenants is a top priority, that’s why CHC is increasing cleaning of all common areas,  high touchpoint areas such as elevators, door entryways, etc..

Please note that you may see janitorial personnel wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE – such as gloves, masks, booties, etc) for their protection and protection of tenants.

We encourage all tenants to follow good hygiene procedures including:

  • Disposing of all garbage in appropriate receptacles.
  • Cleaning up after yourself in common areas – laundry rooms, etc.
  • Following hand-washing guidance
  • Observing recommended social distancing advice

If you are not feeling well, or have a cough or fever please do not enter or use common areas.

Use the AHS self-assessment tool and follow their guidance to determine the appropriate next steps.
