Habitat for Humanity Collaboration Brings Homeownership Option to Tenants

Thinking about homeownership?

Logo for Habitat for Humanity Southern AlbertaA new collaboration is raising awareness about homeownership with Calgary Housing Company (CHC) tenants

CHC is excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta to raise tenant awareness about Habitat’s program and help more families learn about options for homeownership. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization supporting families to move into affordable homeownership with the goal of building long-term stability and independence.

Habitat has a number of new developments underway and they are looking for families ready to move into homeownership.

Owning provides more independence to families while allowing them to build equity. For example – a family that was living with CHC moved into homeownership with Habitat in 2009 and, after eight years, that family has built up $42,000 in equity.

Habitat’s program offers:

  • $0 down-payment
  • Interest free mortgage

Habitat has partnered with more than 250 families in Southern Alberta, including more than 40 families from CHC who have partnered and moved into homeownership with Habitat.

To qualify, families need to be the following criteria:

  • Earn an income between $38,000 – $80,000
  • At least one adult employed full-time (35 hours/week)
  • Have children under the age of 18
  • Willing to partner with Habitat to complete volunteer hours

If you are interested to learn more and see you if you quality take the quick pre-screen questionnaire at www.habitatsouthernab.ca/apply
