Development Projects – Southview
Southview
The Southview housing development, located at 1820 33 Street S.E., Calgary, is bringing much needed new housing to the neighbourhood at affordable rents. The site previously held 96 units of affordable housing that were demolished in 2014 due to age and disrepair. The majority of housing in Southview was built prior to 1980.
The site offers advantages such as proximity to downtown Calgary, access to public transit and is a short distance from grocery stores, churches, schools, community halls, and multiple amenities. The development plans to include 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-bedroom homes to accommodate a range of family sizes. Phase 1 of the multi-phase project will have 250 homes. Ten per cent of them will be barrier free to accommodate people with accessibility needs. An energy efficient project, Southview will meet or exceed tier 2 of the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2020.
Homes in the Southview development will be mixed-income to provide a range of rents to meet resident needs. Some homes in the development will be rented for lower prices and aimed at serving lower income households. Other units are rented for closer to the average rents. The average rents help offset the lower priced units offered to those on lower incomes.
