Community Supports

In Calgary fashion, the community continues to come together while trying to stay physically apart. There are many public and private resources available to the Calgary community as we move through COVID-19 challenges together. Click through the sections below for information and resources that can help you.

Accessing CHC resources and partner agency services

Stay tuned for an update about Calgary Housing Company Resource Rooms across our properties. Our partner agencies are working on continued services, in some cases by appointment and most cases by phone. 

There are many organizations and initiatives in Calgary to support people in need. Community resources centres and hubs have staff on hand to support you with basic needs referrals and other resources. Contact any of the appropriate agencies below, or reach out to your Tenant Liaison for support.

BowWest Community Resource Centre – Information, support and referral services are available by phone. Click to view the list of Community Advocates and their phone numbers. [Added 11/24]

Closer to home Community Services – Family-centered, strength-based services ensure that children have stable, healthy and safe living environments in which to grow and develop. Families in crisis can call (403) 543-0555 to receive help over the phone. [Added 11/24]

North East Family Connections Society – Programs and services for families in the North East Calgary communities of Castleridge, City Scape, Coral Springs, Falconridge, Martindale, Monterey Park, Pineridge, Red Stone, Rundle, Saddle Ridge, Savannah, Skyview Ranch, Taradale, Temple and Whitehorn. COVID-19 (Coronavirus): Access to food – Information from the City of Calgary on no-cost programs available from local service agencies to help vulnerable Calgarians access food. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

The Alex Community Food Centre – The Alex is still connecting people with food supports as well as a host of other things: basic needs, mental health, legal, financial, referrals and other social supports. Visit their website or call (403) 455-5792. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

Calgary Food Bank Food Hampers – Visit the Calgary Food Bank website for more info or call (403) 253-2055 to book a hamper. You must call before picking up. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

Damesh Culture Centre Food Bank – Order non-perishable foods online, call (403) 590-0970 or Email info@dashmesh.ca. Pickup from 135 Martindale Blvd NE or request free delivery. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

Fresh Routes Mobile Market Food Delivery – Complete the form to purchase a food box and you will receive an email with a day and time period that your order will arrive.. There are a limited number of donated food boxes available. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

The Good Food Box – Low-cost boxes of fruits and vegetables available for pick-up. Boxes are available in three sizes: Small (20 – 25 pounds) = $25 | Medium (30 – 35 pounds) = $30 | Large (40 – 45 pounds) = $35. Find a depot location on the Community Kitchen Program website. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

Meals-on-Wheels Food Delivery COVID-19 Discounts – Meals-on-Wheels is offering COVID-19 discounts on “My Choice Menu” single meals until further notice. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

Umoja Community Mosaic – Umoja believes in food dignity. We are accessible to all Calgarians who are having trouble feeding themselves and their families. For newcomers to Calgary, we do our best to deliver culturally relevant foods based on where you grew up. For information and registration, please call (403) 708-9031. [Added 3/2/22]

Elder Abuse Resources from Alberta health – visit the website for resources or call the Calgary Elder Abuse Resource Line at 403-705-3250. Call 911 if you or someone you know is being abused and is in immediate danger. [Reviewed 11/24/20]

The Kerby Centre – Grocery Delivery Program and supportive visits for seniors in the community, and they have lifted the income requirements. Call the program at (403) 234-6571. [Updated 11/24]

  • Volunteer to join a focus group (this will be available through the survey)
